For CERN, the Fête des Voisins lasted the whole weekend. CERN had invited residents of the local France-Geneva region to come and celebrate its 60th anniversary at a special event held on 24 and 25 May, and 8000 of them accepted the invitation to visit installations that many of them pass by every day. Guided tours were offered at three of the Laboratory's underground sites: the CMS and LHCb detectors and the LHC accelerator at Point 4 of the ring.

This celebration was part of the Lange Nacht der Forschung, the Austrian version of the Researchers’ Night. More than 3000 visitors of all age groups took the opportunity to enter the exciting world of particle physics from 5 p.m. to midnight.

The winner and the four runners-up will participate in the Masterclass and the Swiss final, and just one will go on to represent Switzerland at the international Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK.
