CERN: SIXTY YEARS
 OF SCIENCE FOR PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT

On the 20 October 2014, CERN will celebrate its 60th anniversary with the United Nations at the UN Headquarters in New York. This event will highlight the values of science and its capacity to help build bridges between nations.


Under the chairship of the President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the event will feature a series of speeches from eminent scientists and world politicians who will underline the role that science has played in peaceful collaboration, innovation and development.


Time: 10.00 a.m. to 11.40 a.m. (EDT).

At the end of 2013, we were just about to embark on a year of celebrations marking 60 years of science for peace at CERN. Our message was that science is an inescapable driver of peaceful relations among cultures and nations, a force for sustainability and a necessity in confronting the major challenges facing society today. Twelve months on, we can safely say that we’ve been successful in delivering that message.
